Bio: I am a poet and an English professor. I created this blog for my graduate course on Audre Lorde. Students can check in to ask questions, discuss the readings and create a community around Lorde's writings. I hope they will be inspired by her work and will use it to shape their own literary and political aspirations. Depending on the writing community in which you are raised some students believe that their writings do not have to be political. Like Lorde, I believe that everything is political: where you work; where you sleep; who you love; whether you can marry the person you love; whether or not you can vote. It is a luxury to think otherwise. As Lorde says, "Poetry is not a luxury." Indeed it is a privilege and one we must use to transform this space in which we live until each of us is free.
